Hindu resistance astounds Muslim radicals in Chandannagar, Hooghly

Ramnavami, Mahavir Jayanti processions invite recurrent attacks on Hindus  

Chandannagar, historically significant town in the realm of District: Hooghly in Bengal, remained witness to a bitter Hindu-Muslim conflict on April 21, 2013, leading to the injuries of several Hindus and deep tension in the vicinity. The crisis erupted when the religious procession of Hindus, brought out to observe RamNavami, was attacked by Muslim radicals, set not to let Hindus live peacefully there.

The huge Hindu religious procession comprised almost 7, 000 people, including women and children, and once it reached Urdibazar (ward no. 11 and 12 under the Chandannagar Municipality), an area dominated by Bihari Muslims, the problem started. Muslim ruffians there, with no mood to let the Hindu procession go by peaceably, slanged Hindus, especially their womenfolk. Hindus reacted strongly leading to a violent conflict between the two communities. Police found it extremely difficult to calm warring Hindus in particular; Islamists, finding it impossible to resist Hindus, fled soon.

But the problem was not over. Hindus, returning from their religious procession, were attacked by Islamists at 8 pm. However; timely intervention of police saved the situation then.

Ashok Shaw, local MLA, to stop the uphill Hindu-Muslim conflict in the area, convened a peace meeting at Rabindra Bhavan on April 22, 2013, at 6 pm. And a peace committee was also formed. But later developments proved that the saga of peace remains an anathema to brutal Islamists, ever ready to frustrate and also exterminate Hindus.

On April 25, 2013, Hindus, to celebrate Mahavir Jayanti with splendor, brought out another large procession from Hanuman Temple in Urdibazar. Indeed, there was a new feature at this time. The procession included Muslim members of the peace committee along with Hindus; a scene strong enough to boost local administration’s confidence.

But such bonhomie came to an abrupt end when 3 Hindus, Iswar Mahajan, Bikram Hela and Rana Hela, while returning from the procession were attacked by Muslim radicals, armed with lethal weapons. All of them were thrashed mercilessly and Iswar Harijan was struck with a glass bottle (on his head).  

A FIR: 92/13 dtd. 26/04/2013 with Sections: 341/325/326/379/354B/295A/506/34 was filed against Islamists including SK Mannan, SK Munna, SK Helo, SK Pervez.

It has come to the knowledge, 7 Muslim radicals including the above 4 ones have been taken into custody. But 6 Hindus have also been arrested based on flimsy charges submitted by Islamists.

Perhaps, administration was in no mood to let radicals sleep unhappily.

Without doubt, there can’t be any better specimen than this to prove how rising Islamic appeasement in Bengal has made Muslim radicals consider that they can outrage code of law wherever and whenever necessary to satisfy their own needs. Radhamoni Bazaar area, P.S. Tamluk, District: East Midnapore, on April 21, 2013, remained witness to a bitter Hindu persecution stemming from Muslim radicals’ defiant endeavors to continue illegal construction. When Hindus protested they were beaten ruthlessly, leading to injury of 12 Hindus among whom 2 are in critical conditions.    

It has been learnt, the main culprit behind this development is Jainal (age 50) – Muslim individual living in Bhagavanpur, P.O. Narandanri, District: East Midnapore. Jainal along with his Hindu friend, Manoj Giri, used to sell readymade garments in the same Radhamoni Bazaar or market. As, owing to erstwhile Hindu-Muslim scuffles in the area, the market committee had decided that no space could be sold to any non-Hindu businessman, Jainal used the name of Manoj Giri to purchase a shop from a Hindu individual named Rabin Bhakta. Local Hindus, naturally, failed to comprehend this trickery.

National Highway – 41 was made in lands donated by Hindus willingly to better transport in the area; a tract of land or vested land does remain beside the highway and Jainal had an evil intention to grab it also. Jainal decided to build up his own residence there, even if he was well aware of the fact that any such effort would lead to a great chaos as well.

Balaaka Bazaar committee made a strong objection to this illegal construction. To avenge it, on March 31, 2013, Jainal threatened Atanu Sarkar, worker in a tyre-repairing shop alongside Rabin Bhakta’s shop and also a protester, of dire consequences.    

On April 6, 2013, Balaaka Bazaar committee and three Hindu-dominated villages in the vicinity asked both Jainal and Manoj in a meeting for a peaceful settlement. None of them did turn up.

But on April 7, 2013, the following day, Jainal entered the disputed land along with his accomplices and two policemen of P.S. Tamluk, Manik Adak and Swapan Chakraborty. Both of them, it has been learnt, came to restore the disputed construction. The presence of policemen gave rise to another flare up as Hindus were stubborn to stop the project. Hence, it was decided then that the construction would take place under Section 144 and prior to it, Jainal would submit the necessary documents including court order, permission of Panchayat and BLRO.

On April 18, 2013, Dipak Bhattacharya, vice-president of Balaaka Bazaar committee was threatened by an individual named Alauddin over phone. The Muslim radical even challenged might of Hindus and asked them to stop Muslims only if they had power.

On April 21, 2013, Jainal, along with (more than) 60 Islamists in three cars, arrived at the disputed site on 8 am. Without doubt, he was not having any legal permission or certificate and Islamists started digging there almost instantaneously. When local Hindus tried to prevent the work, they were attacked by Muslim radicals having all kinds of lethal weapons. 12 Hindus got highly injured and among them Srtiam Kumar Midya, inhabiting village: Bhuavan Kalua, P.O. Kelomal, a primary teacher by profession is in a critical condition still. He has been admitted to Tamluk District Hospital.

Shankar Maity (age 25), another extremely injured Hindu individual, has been admitted to CMRI, Kolkata. He, owing to brutal thrashing, has lost auditory sense in the left ear.

Once the incident took place, Hindus made a counter attack desperately. Muslim radicals could not face it and more than 25 of them fled from the area. Others ran to the top of the house and started pelting stones on Hindus from there. Hindus, in retaliation, burnt a car of Islamists down.

Police arrived there later, faced lots of difficulties to calm furious Hindus but got able to recover panicked Islamists ultimately. Police, as per the latest information, has assured Hindus that no illegal construction would take place in the disputed site.

It has come to knowledge, 18 Muslim radicals have been rendered police custody of 14 days by the local court.

When the need is to establish own suzerainty by uprooting adversaries, sectarian strife is not the only option. While on one hand it can lead to an undesired clamor, apparent reactions to it may also hinder the project largely. Silent but more effective measures like violating the legal code stealthily can yield more benefits – this happens to be the latest ploy of Muslim radicals in Bengal against pacifist Hindus who prefer to remain silent till they are injured physically.

And at the moment, none except Gopal Chandra Das (s/o late Ananta Das), Hindu individual (age 45) living in village: Ghateswar Kayalpara, P.S. Mandirbazar, District: 24 Paraganas (South) knows this better. He is just bearing brunt of such an atrocious development. Gopal owns a land of almost 1 bigha worth Rs. 10 lakh – Khatiyan 750; Dag No. 839 and 841 at Mouza: Uttar Akraberia, P.S. Mandirbazar; it has become the latest target of Islamists, leaving no stone unturned to usurp it and transform it into a road exclusively for Muslims in the locality.

It is to be noted, 15 Muslim households live alongside a few Hindu families in the same village and a vast land (belonging to Railway) does exist behind them. But Islamists preferred to seize Gopal’s land or the land of a Hindu individual only.     

With this end in view, a large number of Muslim radicals encroached Gopal’s land on April 17, 2013 at 2.45 pm and started digging it almost instantaneously. No less than 500 Muslims, irrespective of young and old or men and women, were present there at that time.

Soon, Gopal grasped the reality and ran all alone to the field to prevent Islamists. Finding him alone, 50-60 Islamists, both men and women with all forms of household weapons ranging from iron rods to knives, simply pounced down on him. One Islamist, named Rahmatullah Khan, to kill Gopal struck him with a crowbar. But the deadly weapon hit him hard in the forehead and he, as a result, started bleeding profusely. But he was not left still, Muslim radicals went on hitting him.

Hearing the desperate cry of Gopal (Banchao – Banchao) for help, his Hindu neighbor, Sahadeb Mandal (s/o late Amulya Mandal), rushed to the spot to save him. But he was also thrashed heavily.  

Both Gopal Chandra Das and Sahadeb Mandal, later, were admitted to Nairat Hospital. They, despite being highly wounded, managed to lodge official complaint to P.S. Mandirbazar.

Here is the name of culpable Islamists: Abdullah Sheikh; Rahmatullah Sheikh; Amirul Sheikh; Nazrul Sheikh; Abul Jamadar; Ramzan Jamadar and 25 others.

It has come to knowledge, police is yet to gear up to take guilty Muslim radicals into custody.

There is hardly any end to lust of Muslim radicals for Hindu women in Bengal and on April 11, 2013, Mangala Dhara (age 38), wife of Madan Dhara – Hindu individual living in village: Heledwip, P.S. Bagnan, District: Howrah, became the unfortunate victim.

The incident occurred when she was busy in mowing the grass in a nearby field; Mohammed Sanjib, local Muslim individual, attacked her from behind and molested her forcefully. However, she could manage to free herself and rushed to the club comprising Hindu youths. The news spread like a wild fire in the village; Hindu youths grabbed Mohammed Sanjib soon and thrashed him as well.

But nothing like this can diminish spirit of a Muslim radical like Sanjib.

Mangala Dhara, along with Subhash Bhowmick (age 25 and local Hindu youth), went to P.S. Bagnan and lodged an official complaint – No. 767/11.04.2013.

When they were returning to village, they were prevented by Mohammed Sanjib and his friend, Mohammed Phuchka. And to retaliate, both of hammered Subhash decisively.      

Subhash went back to P.S. Bagnan to inform police of the latest development. But police refused to visit the spot and take Mohammed Sanjib with Mohammed Phuchka into custody.

How the district of Howrah in the Indian state of Bengal is turning into a stronghold of Islamic fundamentalism can be ascertained from the torturous experiences of Sushmita Das, Hindu housewife of age 18, wife of Kunal Das and living in village: Nimtala Barwaritala, Nazirgunj I/C, P.S. Sankrail. She was both molested and injured violently on April 9, 2013 at 11 pm by three Muslim radicals, Zafar (age 22) and Jehangir (age 26), joined by another one later.  They entered the Hindu household as hucksters or hawkers.

Was there any enmity between Sushmita, her husband and these Islamists?  To know this we would have to focus on another event taking place 6 months ago. At that time, Bosebabu, a Hindu individual dwelling in the same village, constructed a road for Hindus, especially to make their communication easier. The entire project, including its expenses, was managed by him single-handedly. However, from its inception, the road was being used by Muslims too and more for transporting beef. The vicious strategy was to affront Hindus and their religious beliefs; this led to resentment among Hindus, naturally.

On last Bhaiphonta (Bengali Hindu festival), a severe Hindu-Muslim tension erupted when Hindus protested against Muslim ruffians transporting beef. The tension led to a scuffle and two Muslim youths were beaten but released later. It has been learnt, Kunal Das, husband of wounded Sushmita, played a key role in the struggle. Hence, the attack on April 9, 2013 was nothing save an Islamic effort to teach Kunal a lesson.

On the very day, April 9, 2013, Zafar and Jehangir, entered Kunal’s residence as hawkers and asked Sushmita to purchase garments from them. But Sushmita, due to high prices of garments, rejected the offer outright. Sushmita’s mother-in-law was present there initially but went to her neighbor’s house for a personal job, later on. Once she left the third Islamist entered Kunal’s residence, joined Zafar and Jehangir and the three Muslim radicals attacked Sushmita all of a sudden. They injured her violently; attempts to rape her were also made.

Sushmita shouted and hearing her voice, local Hindu youths, Pulak Koley and Manas Patra rushed to Kunal’s house. They found wounded (extremely owing to use of blades) Sushmita, learnt from her the reality and took her to the doctor’s clinic close at hand. Zafar and Jehangir were later picked up by Hindu youths and beaten.

Police arrived there soon and took Zafar and Jehangir into custody. However, the third Muslim radical went missing.

To release Islamists and also to teach the administration a lesson, instructions were given through microphones in mosques to Islamists to protest. And within the next 30 minutes, almost 5, 000 Muslim youths, heavily armed, reached the spot. While some of them were from Agore, Sankrail, Chanpatala, Nazirgunj, Bakultala, others were from Lichubagan and Metiaburuz in Kolkata. Muslims also attacked Hindu-dominated Barwaritala. No less than 1, 000 of them went to Nazirgunj I/C and released Zafar and Jehangir from there forcefully.  

Sushmita Das went to file an official FIR to Nazirgunj I/C but In-Charge there, Suman Das, left no stone unturned to foil her attempt and ultimately, forced her to write a wrong FIR. Strikingly, Pulak Koley and Manas Patra were arrested by the police for disturbing communal harmony.

To save themselves, Hindus in Barwaritala visited Subrata Kanrar, leader of Trinamool Congress and also sub-head of Nimtala Panchpara Panchayat. Subrata refused to listen to Hindus and instead, advised them to open the road built up by Bosebabu for Muslims too. Hindus, to protest against all these, blocked the Howrah - Alampur Road from 5 pm – 1 am on April 9, 2013.

Local activists of Hindu Samhati geared up and owing to their insistence, Pulak Koley and Manas Patra were released on April 10, 2013, next day. When Hindu Samhati activists were in a meeting, Subrata Kanrar arrived there and asked Hindus to open up the road for Muslims once more.

On April 11, 2013, Thursday, Officer-in-Charge, P.S. Sankrail, sent a letter to Hindu Samhati activists inviting them to attend a meeting to form a peace committee comprising 10 members, 5 from Hindus and 5 from Muslims, to stop any communal disturbance in the locality. The meeting started at 7 pm on the same day and 4 Hindu activists went there to participate.

What made the meeting especial was that representatives of all organizations and political parties, except for Hindu Samhati, were representing Muslims virtually.  Subrata Kanrar of Trinamool Congress threatened Hindu Samhati members before police officials there and stated that he would open the aforementioned road for Muslims single-handedly and by force.   

Hindus, in spite of all these, remained defiant.

As part of the latest development, Muslims are evading the road made by Bosebabu for Hindus in particular.

What is the best way to ruin the confidence of any person or community? It is to inflict violent attacks on the most cherished objects of the very individual or community and to break the morale of Hindus, the best way is to assail their venerated temples – a stratagem too well-known to Muslim radicals down the centuries.

Shyamchand Temple in Shantipur, District: Nadia, of 700 years old, known for its architecture and also for playing a pivotal role in guiding Hindus in the vicinity, to strengthen the intra-community bond has become the latest victim to Muslim radicals and their devilish designs to erase Hindus from the area.

On April 5, 2013, the age-old temple became victim to Islamists. It has been learnt, Muslim radicals broke locks and made several attempts to get into the revered temple. However, the presence of interlocking system thwarted their effort and they had to leave (for this time) unsuccessfully. This was the fourth attempt of burglary into Shyamchand Temple (in a row).  Is there any reason to incriminate Muslim radicals in this regard?   

There is, indeed as lots of other temples have been robbed by Islamists and the inactivity of administration is beefing up their confidence only.

On April 6, 2013, a large number of Hindus went to P.S. Shantipur to lodge an official complaint but they just snubbed. Not the police did not file the case but expressed its helplessness also to subdue Islamists.

Will Shyamchand Temple in Shantipur be robbed one and fall down ultimately? Hindus must find out the answer – virility is necessary to preserve religious stronghold and also posterity.

Shanitpur is no naïve to rise of Islamic fundamentalism and in the recent years it went through lots of such assaults. There has not been any ending to such and the proliferation in anti-Hindu activities speaks on its own.

On April 9, 2013, Maniknagarpura, P.S. Shantipur, District: Nadia remained witness to a rabid onslaught of Muslim radicals to grab Hindu properties and a desperate Hindu defence to it.

The crisis, it has been learnt, is not sudden but has been going on surreptitiously for years and it stems from the land (worth above 32 bighas) having both a Muslim burial ground and a vast area where Hindus have been living for decades, if not more. In 1992, a bitter clash regarding the same land took place between the two communities. 

On the very day, April 9, 2013, local Muslims were found (all of a sudden) to fence the vast land including the area being used by Hindus as dwelling. And to thwart any counterattack from Hindus, a crowd of 5, 000 Islamists having lethal weapons had already been stationed. However, Hindu youths risking their own lives stopped the work and decided to look for legal measures to save themselves.   

With this end in view, a large number of Hindus went to Abdul Salim Karikar – vice-chairman of local municipality, but he opined that Muslims were doing no wrong. Hence, there was nothing to express disapproval. Shahjahan, local councilor, said the same also.

Finding no other option, Hindus went to local police station to lodge an official complaint. A deputation signed by tens of thousands of Hindus was also sent to District Magistrate, SP, SDPO, BLRO and Officer-in-Charge – P.S. Shantipur. 

On April 10, 2013, next day, Islamists (in large numbers) came to the same place once more. To save the situation, Hindus phoned police. A number of police personnel arrived there soon and stopped the work. The situation is tense still and on April 16, 2013, key members of the administration will be in an official meeting with 5 representatives of each of Hindu and Muslim groups. District Magistrate, SP, BLRO and Officer-in-Charge – P.S. Shantipur will represent the administration.

Hindus are devoid any help yet as Ajay Dey, local MLA, has expressed his helplessness outright already.

Hindus are determined and steadfast in their demand – without a legal and proper measurement of the disputed property no construction will be allowed.  

Hindu Housewife Raped, Murdered in Usthi Market

Whatever may be the long assurances of police and administration in Bengal to inflict stringent punishments on Muslim radicals, ever ready to gratify their lust by outraging Hindu girls and women followed by their murder, the situation remains unchanged and to sum up, it is getting murkier with the passing of each day.

Yet again a brutal rape followed by murder of a Hindu housewife has taken place in District: 24 Paraganas (South), a district virtually under the siege of Islamists at the moment, and the hapless Hindu lady, Bishnupriya Halder (age 50), wife of late Sanjit Halder, and also a vegetable seller by profession at the market in Usthi, used to live in village: Chousa, P.S. Diamond Harbor, District: 24 Paraganas (South).   

Bishnupriya, it has been learnt, (every day) used to return to her residence between 8.00-8.30 pm from the market in Usthi.  But on the fateful day, April 10, 2013, she didn’t return usually alarming her family members of an untoward development. And her son and son-in-law began a desperate search for her promptly but to no avail. They remained unsuccessful to get hold of her whereabouts.

It was around 4.30 am, on April 11, 2013, when her naked and slain body with clear evidences of rape was found out from behind the tyre-repairing shop of Akbar Khan, adjacent to the shop of Ganesh where Bishnupriya used to keep her weighing scale each day. 

The discovery was enough to form despair among his son and son-in-law; Hindus who were informed of the ghastly discovery also raised hue and cry. To subdue fiery Hindu protests and also to prevent the situation from worsening, a team of police personnel from P.S. Diamond Harbor reached the spot soon. They both seized the slain body of Bishnupriya and arrested Akbar Khan promptly.    

The revelation of the ghastly incident enraged Hindus in the vicinity such that a spontaneous road blockade against Islamists and police’s incapacity went on for more than 2 hours at a stretch. Hindu villagers of Chousa, cutting across political affiliations and age group, took part in the road blockade.

A team of RAF, to contain any further disturbance, was deployed around Usthi market before long and several police officials including SDPO, SDO, O.C., S.I. got busy to restrain angry Hindus.

Police has assured Hindus of rigorous punishment of Akbar Khan even if a section of Hindus remain skeptical of the pledge.     

Tension continues to rule the area still.

Muslim radicals wreak havoc on Hindus in Bagnan, Howrah

There is virtually no security of Hindus in Bengal now and thanks to a doomed administration, engaged in appeasing Muslim radicals round the clock, this saga of misfortune is extending far and wide.

What has taken place at Gunintala, No. 1 Haturia, P.S. Bagnan, Subdivision: Bagnan, District: Howrah on March 31, 2013, reveals this ground reality on the whole.

An age-old Hindu (150 years at least) crematorium does exist in Gunintala; the entire property is divided into four parts namely 36 shatak, 28 shatak, 27 shatak and 80 shatak. But the same cremation chamber, used by innocent Hindus in the locality, has become the latest target of Islamists. They are hell-bent to grab the area and replace the chamber with a grand Idgah.

This development came in the front about 7 moths ago when local Islamists were heard to state that the cremation chamber was nothing save a stretch of land belonging to Khana Khada Idgah.

Nevertheless, Hindus continued to use the crematorium and even if Muslim boys were seen to rag them, they remained steadfast. The situation remained thus till March 31, 2013.

On March 31, 2013, Hindus of village: Gunintala went to the ground at 10 am for cremation when they perceived with horror a notice of SDPO stuck on the door of Kali temple (in the same premises) stating that any dead body must be cremated beyond the range of 100 metres from the mosque. Hindus got stupefied but concluded that any retreat would be dangerous for Hindus on the whole and might dampen their spirits to struggle as well. Worship in the Kali temple might also come to an end. Hence, being defiant, Hindus cremated the corpse.

All of a sudden, when the cremation was unabated, a few Islamists appeared there and started abusing Hindus. Apprehending chances of any such confrontation, police arrived there quickly and to defuse the tension asked Naba Ojha, Srimanta Ojha and a few other Hindu individuals to participate in a meting at the police station.

Following the cremation, Hindus were returning through Sheikhpara when almost 200 Islamists attacked them all at once. Muslim radicals were having both rural and lethal weapons; Hindus, as a result, were thrashed mercilessly. But police escorting Hindus remained silent.

Later on, Muslims attacked a (neighboring) Hindu Scheduled Caste village; a good number of Hindu houses were ransacked, Hindus were beaten hollow as well. A Hindu housewife, wife of Kanai Malik, was also wounded and she is at Uluberia Subdivision Hospital in a critical condition now. Ajit Mailk, another Hindu individual, was also injured extremely.

To foil any further violent attempts of Muslim radicals, a few Hindus including Naba Ojha, Srimanta Ojha went to P.S. Bagnan to lodge a FIR. But contrary to their expectations, all these innocent Hindus were arrested once they entered the police station. Hindus burst into protest and gheraoed the police station for hours.
